My Journey

Some HIstory

I'm a wanderer at heart, inspired by nature, people, and cultures.

I was a mathematics major in college—the logical aspects of it felt like a foundation to stand on, and the concept of infinity, with all its implications, helped define the universe for me. I didn’t want to teach math, though, so after college I took a job as a computer programmer. This evolved into several different positions within the IT industry, and I enjoyed the challenges, the people, and the opportunities for travel that it afforded me.

When I began thinking about retirement, one thing was clear—whatever came next needed to include meaningful connection with people and opportunities for travel. Beyond that, I wasn’t sure.

Synchronicity brought the answer when I heard Martha Beck on a Mel Robbins podcast and knew that her book, Finding Your Own North Star, was exactly what I needed.

Finding My Way

For the past few years, I've been taking better care of myself—not in small ways, but in ways that once felt almost indulgent. I prioritized my physical health, worked with nutrition and fitness experts, and began tending to my emotional well-being with real intention.

Today, I consider myself “in recovery” from patterns that once kept me stuck & exhauseted—perfectionism, constant busyness, and many forms of numbing. That way of living was exhausting. Perhaps you can relate?

My new path, in case you can't read the imperfect calligraphic note I have on my mirror due to the imperfect photo, is "I intend to be present instead of perfect".  Its a helpful reminder of my new priorities.
